Vehicle Registration Process in RTO
It is required by Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 to register a vehicle with the RTO. The following outlines procedure for vehicle registration step by step guide:
Temporary registration
A temporary registration is one that vehical dealer issues at the time of purchase.
Temporary registration is valid for 7 to 30 days only and must be converted into permanent registration with in that period.
Permanent registration
If you acquire a permanent registration certificate (RC), the vehicle owner is required to complete the following steps:
- Go to loacl RTO office to get the required documents.
- Go there and submit the Form 20 along with these documents:
- Sales invoice of your vehicle.
- Manufacturer’s certificate and Form 21.
- Insurance certificate.
- Certificate of roadworthiness (Form 22) provided by dealer.
- Address proof (Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, Passport, etc.)
- Valid pollution under control (PUC) certificate.
- Road tax payment bill.
- PAN Card/Form 60 (If necessary).
- RTO will conduct a formal inspection and verify the documents.
- If the documents are verified, you will be issued a permanent registration number in the form of a Registration Certificate (RC).
